Chase Sapphire Preferred Review: Unlocking Free Travel

By

Highlights:

  • Transfer partners (can 2x the value of your points)
  • Low annual fee of $95
  • Solid bonus: 60,000 Ultimate Reward points
  • Primary rental car coverage
  • Minimum 1.25x point value toward travel

Overview

The Chase Sapphire Preferred has the lowest annual fee for any Chase card that enables transferring points to partners. This alone makes the Sapphire Preferred a keeper because transfer partners can make Ultimate Rewards points (UR) worth 2 or more cents per point, essentially doubling your cash back. The sign up bonus is solid even at 60,000 UR, but if you are able to wait, the bonus has gone up to 80,000 UR. Additionally, the primary rental car coverage can save you money from purchasing rental car insurance every time you rent a car. And finally, the Sapphire Preferred allows you to use points through the Chase travel portal at 1.25 cent per point giving you increased flexibility if you can’t find any good transfer partners.
